Spanish Olive Oil Harvest 2026/27: New Crop Sourcing Guide
Spain’s New Olive Oil Harvest 2026/27: What International Buyers Need to Know
Spain’s 2026/27 olive harvest has begun in October, marking the start of a new procurement cycle for olive oil importers, distributors and private-label brands. Harvesting and milling take place at different times across Spanish regions, so early activity should not be confused with confirmed nationwide production volumes or final prices.
What changes when the new harvest begins?
The start of harvesting gives buyers an opportunity to revisit product specifications, projected demand and shipment windows. Early-harvest extra virgin olive oil may have particular sensory characteristics, while broader commercial availability develops as more producers harvest and mill their olives. Actual volumes and quality vary by producer, variety and weather.
New-crop pricing: request a dated quotation
New-season prices are not automatically fixed when the first olives are picked. Ask for a dated offer stating grade, quantity, packaging, origin, available lot, Incoterm, payment conditions and validity. Distinguish indicative market discussion from a confirmed supplier quotation. Comparing EXW and CIF prices without accounting for freight, insurance and other costs can be misleading.
Select the right olive oil grade
Extra virgin olive oil, virgin olive oil and olive-pomace oil are different product categories. Buyers should specify the intended category and request relevant product analysis and documentation for the actual lot. A price comparison only makes sense when the quality and specification are comparable.
Bulk and private-label packaging
Buyers may require bulk transport, IBCs, flexitanks, glass bottles, PET bottles or tins. For retail and foodservice, specify bottle size, units per carton, label language and any private-label requirements. Confirm minimum production runs, packing capacity, lead time and container loading assumptions with the actual producer or packer.
How to assess a Spanish supplier
Verify the legal company, whether it is the producer or a packer, traceability, food-safety documentation and the capacity to deliver the requested volume. Request samples where commercially appropriate. Ensure the shipment documents and destination-market requirements are agreed before placing an order.
Plan purchases for the 2026/27 season
Importers expecting repeat orders should share realistic monthly or annual demand, destination port and target delivery windows. A clear purchasing forecast can make supplier discussions more productive, although availability and pricing remain subject to confirmation.
